Configuration
/etc/pangolin
  • Site mode: create a site in the Pangolin dashboard first, then copy the Site ID, secret, and endpoint. Existing standalone Newt installs (with /etc/newt/newt.env) are detected and migrated in place — no new credentials needed.
  • Run on the Proxmox host (not inside a container). Choose Proxmox host or an existing LXC, then select which components and enter credentials.

Installs the official Pangolin CLI on the Proxmox host or into an existing LXC and enables Site mode (pangolin up site — the Newt replacement), Machine Client mode (pangolin up — VPN), or both. One binary, two components. Existing standalone Newt installs are detected and migrated in place, reusing the same site credentials.

Installer

Configuration : /etc/pangolin

Dans le conteneur ou la VM concernés. Exécutez cette commande dans le shell du nœud Proxmox, pas dans une VM. Lisez le script d'abord.

Tutoriel pas à pas

De l'interface de Proxmox jusqu'à la première connexion, pour Pangolin Addon (CLI).

  1. Ouvrez la console de cette machine dans Proxmox (ou le shell du nœud si la fiche l'indique).

  2. Copiez cette commande, collez-la et appuyez sur Entrée.

  3. Répondez aux questions du script et attendez la fin de l'installation.

  4. Pour mettre à jour plus tard : relancez la même commande et choisissez la mise à jour.

  5. Le fichier de configuration se trouve ici : /etc/pangolin

À savoir

  • Components: Site tunnel (expose private resources to Pangolin, userspace WireGuard, no TUN) and/or Machine client (join the host/LXC into the Pangolin network as a device, needs /dev/net/tun). The CLI binary installs once and both components can run side by side as separate services.
  • Client mode: create a machine client in the Pangolin dashboard first, then copy the client ID, secret, and endpoint.
  • Host install: the host is directly connected to Pangolin (site can expose everything the host can reach; client joins the whole host to the VPN). Prefer an existing LXC for isolation. LXC targets must be Debian, Ubuntu, or Alpine.
  • Client mode in an LXC adds /dev/net/tun passthrough to the container config and restarts the CT if needed.
  • Manual update — host: update-pangolin-site / update-pangolin-cli. Existing LXC: pct exec <CTID> -- update-pangolin-site (or update-pangolin-cli). Does not overwrite an app's /usr/bin/update.

  • Unattended (client, LXC): var_mode=client var_target=101 var_pangolin_endpoint=https://pangolin.example.com var_client_id=ID var_client_secret=SECRET bash -c "$(curl -fsSL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/oraad/proxmox-scripts/main/tools/addon/add-pangolin.sh)"
  • Unattended (both, LXC): add var_site_id/var_site_secret and var_client_id/var_client_secret with var_mode=both.
  • Legacy aliases still accepted (site mode): var_newt_id / var_newt_secret. The old addon URLs tools/addon/add-pangolin-site.sh and tools/addon/add-pangolin-cli.sh remain as wrappers that force site or client mode.
